#CUFFING SEASON: Netflix & Chill Guide

#CUFFING SEASON: Netflix & Chill Guide

Let’s face it, the weather outside isn’t all that frightful. Thanks to global warming it was a not-so-bad fifty-three degrees in New York last week. The sun crept out, people’s attire lightened up and it felt really good to be outside. Despite the occasional interruptions to Winter, we are still, in fact knee-deep into prime Cuffing Season. Maybe it’s the post-holiday lull, but right now all I want to do with boo is lay up and watch movies and order Seamless. If this is on your list of things to do this week, here are a few “couple-friendly” flicks to watch.   The Upbeat Cult Classic The Wiz, starring Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Richard Pryor will get you both to ‘ease on down the road to a happy place. This throwback classic is super upbeat and reminds us all of a happier time when MJ was still alive and…Continue Reading

New Year, New Love

New Year, New Love

So…. Serena Williams just got engaged! If you’re like so many Powerhouse Women, this announcement gave you hope.  Hope that so often is clouded by news reports, expert opinions and random Facebook memes that suggest we somehow don’t need love. That if you are a go-getter, you simply don’t deserve love and should cozy up to our careers instead. These baseless claims blame everything from a woman’s ambition and her confidence in her ability to make her mark on the world. Her absolute refusal to settle for love and relationships that are lacking what it takes to succeed. Enter Serena. A woman who is known for being a beast in her field. She is the definition of unstoppable and unapologetic talent. Not only did she land herself a man who is successful and accomplished himself, but she did very well to keep it on the low. There’s something so satisfying about seeing…Continue Reading

CUFFING SEASON GUIDE: 6 Signs He’s a Serial Heartbreaker

CUFFING SEASON GUIDE: 6 Signs He’s a Serial Heartbreaker

He says the right thing, his text-back game is killer, he asks you out on proper dates (no Netflix and “chill”) and he’s exactly how you pictured your perfect mate would be. But in the back of your mind, in the hidden cracks of your psyche – your spidey senses are tingling. You know he’s delicious, but he smells too good to be true. Wave away some of that fairy dust and take a quick assessment before you start planning your tropical baecation. Watch out for these telltale signs he’s not ready to settle down. He’s Fresh Out Ask him when his last relationship was. If it was anytime in the last year, you might want to ease up just a tad. It’s common to feel “over” a relationship, especially when it ended amicably. But giving proper time to breathe out an old lover is important for self-care.…Continue Reading

Dessert & Discussion | A Love Story

Dessert & Discussion | A Love Story

As I get ready to head back to Cali for “The War Love Tour” presented by Dessert & Discussion I can’t help but be a little nostalgic – Sacramento, California is where it all began. In honor of this beautiful milestone, I’m taking to my blog to answer some of the most commonly asked questions I get about Dessert & Discussion. About it’s inception, it’s growth and it’s meaning. How Dessert & Discussion Started… Before there was Netflix & Chill – I was on that BlockBuster by yo’sef entertainment plan. The Diary of a Tired Black Man inspired the first discussion. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a dude who was pissed off about his dating predicaments. Relationship woes from a man’s perspective – only in California. Despite the melodramatics, I spotted a pattern. I clutched my proverbial pearls as I wondered if the women who were destroying…Continue Reading

Quit Breaking Your Heart…

I was standing with a bunch of brothas at Music Club. That night the DJ was playing love song after love song. Every few minutes some familiar lyric would play. The kind that would remind me of that one ex, or that one date…you know that one date. Then a song came on that struck a chord with all the fellas in the room. Heads nodded and dipped as memories of their 1st love scattered back into their minds. They elbowed each other and smiled as they fell into discussions with each other about memories of heartbreak. To hear men talk so openly about ‘the one that got away’ or the one that made them sit on the edge of the bed for days in tears was fascinating!  Mostly because, it’s not every day that you get a glimpse into the raw emotions of men. But also because in that moment…Continue Reading
